TOMMIE SMITH & JOHN CARLOS

Picture
These two men, Tommie Smith and John Carlos reached a milestone in the Civil Rights Movement. These two men went to the Olympics as runners, and once they were being medaled the bronze and the gold, they had planned a non-violent protest. When they were on the stands, they waiting for the Star Spangled Banner to play when they put their heads down, and raised their fists to "black Power." They were looked at as a disgrace by Americans for very long, and were banned from the olympic village. Their Bravery and success to honor blacks at an event as huge as the Olympics will never be forgotten.
