VOTING RIGHTS ACT OF 1965
Although the 15th Amendment granted African Americans the right to vote, things like poll taxes and literacy tests indirectly deprived them of this right. For long after the 15th amendment, voting was still not equal and was still a struggle for blacks. This Act called for government supervision of voting, expanded voting rights, and prohibited literacy tests and other things that could possibly deny African Americans their tight to vote.
