FREEDOM RIDERS
The Freedom Rides were an idea that the C.O.R.E came up with. The Freedom Rides was when groups of whites and Blacks rode on interstate busses and sat wherever they pleased, disregarding the blacks only and whites only sections. They Planned for this to be peaceful. When they reached Alabama, one of the busses was firebombed. The people from the other bus were attacked and beaten. Both busses faced major injuries. The KKK was responsible for these attacks on the two busses. The Freedom rides were significant to the civil rights movement because this event eventually got the Interstate Commerce Commission to get rid of segregation on Public transportation in November
of 1961. That was extremely important, because many of the retaliations occurred on public transportation.
